HTML Entities

HTML entities are special characters or symbols that can be used in HTML and XML documents to display characters that have a special meaning or are not easily entered using a keyboard. They are used to represent characters that are not included in the standard ASCII character set and are often used to display characters such as the copyright symbol (©), the euro symbol (€), and the ampersand (&).

Entities are represented by a string of characters that begin with an ampersand (&) and end with a semicolon (;). For example, the entity for the copyright symbol is ©.

Syntax

&entity_name;
  OR
&#entity_number;

For example, to display the copyright symbol © in a webpage, you would use the following HTML code:

<p>Copyright &copy; 2022</p>

There are two types of HTML entities: named entities and numeric entities. Named entities are human-readable, such as &copy; for copyright, while numeric entities are represented by a specific number, such as &#169; for copyright.

HTML entities can be used in any HTML or XML document and are especially useful when working with languages that use special characters, such as accented letters or symbols. They are also useful when working with special characters that have a specific meaning in HTML, such as the < and > characters, which are used to create tags.
